Epitalon Research Overview

Last updated:

Epitalon (also referred to as Epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide studied in the context of pineal-gland function and cellular-aging research.

Epitalon has no approved human medical indication and has not been evaluated by the FDA or any other regulatory body for safety or efficacy in humans. Published research on Epitalon is overwhelmingly preclinical: conducted in vitro (cell and tissue culture) or in animal models, primarily rodents. We are not aware of well-controlled human clinical trials establishing a therapeutic effect for any condition.

Published research on epitalon is concentrated in a specific body of aging- and telomere-related preclinical literature:

  • Telomerase-activity research — cell-culture studies have investigated epitalon's association with telomerase activity and cellular-senescence-related endpoints.
  • Aging-model research — animal studies, largely from a specific research group's published work, have examined epitalon in models of cellular and organismal aging.
  • Pineal-gland and circadian research — animal studies have investigated epitalon's association with pineal-gland function and melatonin-related signaling.

These are summaries of published research topics, not claims about what this product does, and animal-model findings do not establish an effect in humans. See References below to search the primary literature directly.

Limitations

State of the Evidence

A substantial portion of the published epitalon aging and telomerase literature originates from a single research group, which limits independent replication; extrapolating from cell-culture telomerase assays or animal aging models to human aging processes is not established by the existing literature.
